Go Pro vs. JVC

I've decided to help my wife find a great Christmas gift for her special hubby, and a sport camera is on the list. Have been doing some research on the Go Pro Hero 3 Black edition and the JVC Adixxion.

 

Are there any users of either out there that can share your thoughts and experiences with these cameras. I would like to know about real world picture and video quality, ease of use, battery life etc.

I like the fact that the JVC does not need a separate housing to take it under water and it includes a viewing screen. Also, if you have a smartphone, you can use it to view live streaming from the camera and use the phone as a remote control. The fact that it's $100 cheaper doesn't hurt either.
