  1. Yes Brian, you have the location correct. It's the training room at #2 station on Hamilton Rd. The room can seat at least 20 tyers and has good light. Parking right next to the building, and our times are somewhat flexeble. We can start about an hour earlier and go as late as we want.

  2. A big thank you tho those who organized the Open Tie on Jan 17th. It was my 1st time attending an Open Tie and I had a great, educational time.

I do think we should do this again. I heard some talking about trying it in Bloomington at the end of Feb. I am trying to get a spot for Sunday Feb 28th. It can seat 20 tiers and has great lighting. Let me know what you guys think.

I should know someting buy the end of the week.

I noticed that there was a few guys taking pics on sunday. Could you post them?

  3. Hi Greg,

I'm a new member of ISA and am looking into the idea of purchasing a kayak for fishing purposes. Sorry I don't have any interest or need for your roof rack system.

Was sort of excited to see that you acquired the Native kayak, which is the one I seem to prefer over other models/brands. Would like to ask a couple of questions about using a kayak for fishing purposes. Some background...

My idea of getting/using a kayak is to avoid having to shuttle my car to a take out point downstream. Am wondering if its practical to consider paddling upstream on a river and then fishing back to the launch site? Probably would fish from the kayak however I think my preference would be to use it as transportation and then get out and wade selected areas. Is this idea practical? Do you wear waders when fishing from the kayak? I would probably wear the waders. Thanks for your help, Dick Dragiewicz

Hi Dick, I have been fishing from canoes and kayaks for years and if you have already started you now they are not perfect for fishing out of, but they do work. Last year I got the pleasure of fishing out of a Water Master Grizzly inflatable. WOW. It makes a huge differance. I could fish the entire time i was in the boat. I did not have to put down my rod hardly at all. Here are the links for it.

These are incredible. Be sure to check out the videos, both on the web site and on youtube.

They are a bit pricey but they are well worth it. The guys at Big sky inflatables are great and I am now saving my pennies and trying to sell my kayak so I can get my Water Master.

I have the Garmin GPS Map 60 CSx and I LOVE IT. I use it all the time, in the car, on the motorcycle, hikes, hunting (animals and mushrooms), and geocaching with the family.

The 60 is a more exspensive one, but it is worht it. You can download maps and switch out the SD card for more memory, use your computer to set up routes and outingings.

If you have more questions you can call me.

  5. To date the Illinois Smallmouth Alliance has received 265 flies to be used in new member packets, our former member renewal campaign and various raffles including the Blowout! :)

A heartfelt 'thanks' goes out to each and every one of you that has spent your time and money tying flys for the ISA! Others have donated purchased flys as well.

Jude T, Rich M, John L, Cory G, Greg C and Stan Z have all donated more than 2 dozen flies each! Some of them have produced twice that amount! Other donors are Josh B, Pat H, Alan S, Joe D and Stuart V.

Several dozen flys are still needed.

Are there any other tyers out there that wish to contribute to the cause?

What type of flies are needed? Smally flies or just whatever?
