Don't wait. Buzzbaits can be the most productive lure from June to October for stream smallmouth bass. I catch a few hundred smallmouth bass a year on buzzbaits. Cast everywhere and cover water, drag over and through cover.
William C and I did pretty well on them during the guided trip I donated last year. We caught about 70 that day.
Here's an article I wrote a while back. 1/4ozers dual rotating buzzers catch all sized fish, go bigger and slower near dark and for true monsters.
There really are few lures more fun to cast, work, and catch fish on. Since buzzbaits are virtually snagless, you will pull fish out of cover you can't throw most lures into.
In addition, buzzbaits often get bit when other lures don't get a sniff. The noise annoys mean 'ole Mr. Bass into striking.
edit: whoops, wrong article. Fixed.
Thank you! I'm going add buzzbaits to my arsenal.

I haven't tried a buzzbait on the river yet. Are you guys working them upstream or down? 1/4 ounce? Any special spots work better than others? Thanks Bill

First 19" this year caught this morning on Mr Graham's swim jig with a Blue pearl 5" Kalins grub trailer. If you fish the upper Fox , notice the snow in the background, you should know where I caught him.

Silver Shad with a Kalins 5" trailer has been deadly this spring.
Been working them in eddies and current seams.

" While your walking and picking you can be pounding."
Why do I find this statement amusing ?

Due to a plant closure, I'm suddenly available for this.
Let me know when and where.

That hurts.

Sometimes it can enhance the fishing experience to be cutthroat with good friends. Then add trash talking and ripping on each other. A couple of buddies and I do this just about every time we get together, but we've known each other since we were kids. Its like we're 15 years old all over again.

Jack, are those waders bootfoot?
Thanks Bill

Dan, I'm in Hoffman and fish the Fox quite a bit. Any Questions? Please don't hesitate to PM me and I'll get you pointed in the right direction.

Jonn, could you set me up with another Fox River package?
Thanks Bill

One could get a smallie to bite a corn cobb if the retrieval cadence and location was right.
For aethetics, Idon't like chipped paint. The fish don't seem to care.
Anglers can get into their own heads on things like this.
Hmmm..... Walking the corncob? Now that sounds like a challenge.

Thanks for the info guys. Being obsessive compulsive is scary in moments like this....

I spent many a morning last year watching fish gorge themselves on the cadis fly hatch on the Fox.
What kind of set up should an inexperienced FlyFisherman obtain in order to get started?
Weight, length, flies,line... I know very little.
Thanks guys! Bill

I was at GAT yesterday to pick up a couple of rods that Ken fixed the tips on. I wish I had seen this post earlier , I would have stopped to introduce myself.
If you get a chance, stop by GAT on a weekday and talk Smallmouth with Ken. The tips and tricks he has shared with me the last 3 years have been invaluable.
