Jim J
Please go to http://www.stopthemegadairy.org and read about what may be in store for the Apple River. This would be very bad news for one of our jewels. Get calling and e-mailing. Please! The Jo Daviess County Board is going to vote on this project THIS WEEK. Please contact them today, and let them know that you don't want this polluting factory in your county. The first six members are on the Planning Committee, and they should all get a phone call, letter, or both. If you have the time, please call the entire board. No river that size in Illinois is cleaner or more pristine. If you've been fishing there, you also know it's one of the best fisheries in the state. There are times there you can tell if your lure is fouled, because every clean retrieve produces a fish. THAT's what at risk here. The effect of feed-lot run-off on rivers can be staggering. If you never did anything before for smallmouth fishing in Illinois, this would be a good time to start. Go to the top of the page
Jim J
The ISA drafted and sent a resolution today as being strongly against this project.
Jonn Graham
Great. We got to get our leader out of Springfield. We should go dump a bunch of cow manure on his lawn and see how he likes it. Hell, he probably does not even know where Jo Davies county is. Fredmo
California dairymen placed a dairy factory farm in McLean County several years ago, near Bellflower. There were a number of meetings and lots of opposition raised, but there were supporters as well. The State Ag. Department folks have never met a megadairy they didn't like. Anything putting more animals on the land seems to be viewed as progress. At the time the Bellflower dairy was approved, which incidentally was Sept. 11, 2001 (State govt. stayed open long enough to issue that approval, then shut down), they had never turned down one of these applications, be it for cows, pigs, or others.
