Military Kids Fishing Day

Event details

I'd like to draw your attention to a special cause the ISA is involved

with.

Sgt. Thomas M. Gilbert, 24, of Downers Grove, Ill., paid the ultimate sacrifice on Oct.

25, 2006 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province,

Iraq.

Thomas was an avid fisherman, deeply passionate about everything

related to the outdoors.

On August 11th, 2007 the ISA will be conducting the Kids Casting

portion of this very special kids fishing day at Herrick Lake in Du

Page County.

Sgt. Gilbert loved to spend much of his time fishing at this facility,

making this event that much more special for all involved.

Approximately 200 kids of military will be brought to the lake on

buses provided by the USO, and soldiers from area bases will be

helping to assist these children in the many activities planned. Major

sponsors include the ISA and Bass Pro Shops to help ensure that

each child is shown that they have the opportunity to enjoy the sport

the rest of us sometimes take for granted. Every child will leave with

their very own fishing rod and reel so they have the

ability to spend many more days on the water after this day is over.

While many of them have parents fighting abroad so that we may enjoy

our freedoms at home, sometimes it becomes necessary to heed the

portion of the ISA mission statement regarding "education", as this is

truly one of the best ways to promote the future of fishing and a

heritage that has been passed to all of us at some point in our lives.

Thomas wouldn't have settled for anything less, and we owe it to him

to take one day away from our hectic schedules and devote it to his

memory and legacy.

If you can find a few hours of time to come out and help us with the

Kids Casting portion, please notify me as soon as you make the

decision to attend.

Email or call.
