I helped you carry it. Fully loaded it felt like a battleship.

Yeah you did, maybe we can find a few places this year to fish that aren't as difficult to put in /pull out at. Good thing for that rope though to pull the Battleship up the bank.

  2. I personally don't like either because I believe the grips can be tough on pike and muskie when they have no place to go as they give a strong head shake. The glove seems like an ok option but I can see where that would get really stinky. I try to handle them directly over the water and that way if they shake I can let them fall back into the water until they calm back down. I probably handle 500-800 pike a year so maybe it's just luck or maybe being well practiced in handling pike but the first and only time to date the only time I've got a tooth in me was a couple weeks ago while not paying attention while reaching for my phone to take a pic in the yak. I've never had a hook stuck in me from a pike. I just try to make sure they're done fighting before grabbing them by the gill plate. To be sure of this I'll use the rod tip to hold their head out of the water and watch their mouth. If they still have a fair amount of thrashing yet to come, they will open up farther just before they shake their head. Once they don't shake their head they're generally good to grab. Just pay attention and at the first indication of a shake drop them into the water. One other thing I've been really trying to do the last year or 2 is get my hands wet before handling any fish in an effort to try to not take the slime off when I grab them.

  3. Way to go Terry thanks for putting the rain gods to work by catching your Brutus. I thought after 2 summers of not having much time to fish, this summer would finally make up for lost time and I can't even get on the water during my days off ?. As the Cubs fans used to say...maybe next year.

  4. I'm not going to make it. Was out today morning to evening. Rock, Pec, raccoon creek, North branch kish. 0 walleye, 0 pike, 20 smallie's. Smallies were pounding 4.5 inch suspending jerk bait. I'd love to talk fishing and pound pizza slices and thats worth the 100 miles of driving but I will save those miles for another day right now I'm toast.

Dang nice day! I again couldn't buy a smallie going back and forth between a tube, swim jig and xrap... I got out on the kish yesterday mostly to just go for a walk with the wife but of course I had to take a rod with. The only luck I had was a couple of pike that hit a tube of all things. One snake at 22 inches the other went 33.5. I was very glad to catch the pike but I'm starting to wonder if I even know how to catch a bass anymore. See ya at noon Terry.
