Try the Lincoln IL area. It's only about 40 miles from Springfield, and there are several smallie streams there. On the north side of Lincoln there is a park on Kickapoo Creek. Salt Creek runs through Madigan State Park on the west side. My favorite is Sugar Creek, a little north and east of Lincoln off of rt 10. If you are interested I can give more specific instructions on access points.
