  1. As you may have noticed we have a young man, Gunnar Brammer - Brammer's Custom Flies - from Duluth as guest tyer at the Early show this Sunday. Before he returns I have asked him to do a powerpoint presentation at Orvis Yorktown at 7 pm on Monday 11/12/18. He worked at Kelly Galloup's Slide Inn in Montana several years & ties large streamers for big predators that he designs.   3. Water levels are up but this is Ok. we will stay on the grass. Orvis & DuPage FF Co. are bringing new rods from Sage, Redington, & Scott too. Be sure to stop by the temperatures are fall like finally. See you there. John
  4. Cast & Compare 2018 Saturday 9/08/18 - 8:00am to 12 noon Glenwood Forest Preserve 1644 S. River St., Batavia, IL. 60510 Bring one or more of your new or favorite rods to compare to others. This is a great chance to try other rods on the water to see what you like. If you are new to fly fishing come out & learn! Test new gear from Dupage Fly Fishing & Orvis Yorktown, plus Doug Taylor - Sage Pro Staff & spey instructor are in with more to come. We’ll also have a raffle of donated gear during lunch to cover expenses. Come join us for this free event – stick around & we’ll grill & then go fish!

  7. We'll be there again on June 30th pending water levels. I'm glad we aren't planting on the Rock river - it doesn't look like it will be down anytime soon.

  13. Jeff Fox is hosting the Illinois Rod Builders annual cast & compare this Sunday 4/29/18 at Glenwood Forest Preserve, Batavia. 8 am to 2pm - I'll be there & will grill for lunch. Come out & cast some bamboo with the builders that made them. John l

  15. 2018 Free Introduction to Speycasting Clinic. Doug Taylor, Sage Elite Pro Staff and St Joe River licensed guide, will once again be offering this free clinic. It will be held on the 3rd Saturday of the month on the Fox River at Glenwood Park in Batavia. Start time is 09.00 AM. Finish time is when the last person leaves the water. You will need, waders or high waterproof boots, sunglasses and a hat. The clinic will be from April till October. Not including June as I will be away salmon fishing on the Restigouche. Dates, Saturday April 21st, May 19th, June, No class. , July 21st, Aug 18th, Sept 15th and Oct 20th. It will cover basic Speycasting for beginners as well as some of the more advanced techniques . You can bring your own gear or borrow one of my matched outfits. I will have a wide selection of Spey lines on hand, so if you are having a problem matching line to rod, just bring it along and we will get it sorted. Last year was quite fun, and I saw a definite improvement in peoples Speycasting. So if you have interest in learning to Speycast, come and pay us a visit.   16. Oops! This Thursday 3/22/18 at 6:30pm. Tom's original flies are very effective on the Fox & other local streams. He'll talk about how he fishes them, usually in tandem with another fly. John.

Abe guides on the upper Wisconsin river & is an Orvis endorsed drift boat guide out of Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Come learn about the opportunities in northern Wisconsin rivers for bass, pike & musky on the fly. Reserve a date to fish this season, Abe can help you pick the best time to come.
