  1. First off I would like to thank everyone who respond to my first post. As you may I have read I'm relatively new to fly fishing. I read from several sources that I need backing and tippets. What kind are size of backing or tippets should I have ? I bought some bass leaders from cabela's a few day ago along with some new line. Besides tying your own flies or buying your flies from a fly shop. Are they any catalogs out there for fly fishing besides cabela's? Are there any ISA members who sell flies? Thanks again fellow buggers and looking forward to your responses. Dustin Smallies on the Rock
  2. The bird in the video is a Green Heron. The bird was not trained to do this as this a natural behavior. You will typically find Green Herons on any wooded stram or river in Illinois. So look out for them while you are smallie fishing. Dustin Smallies on the Rock
  3. If you only had one lure or could only take one lure to go smallie fishing .What would it be ? For myself I would take a Blue Fox Vibrax Foxtail spinner in chartruese. Dustin Smallies on the Rock
  4. I hear you there on keeping certain places "clost to the vest". I have several places that I keep closed lipped about.I grew up in Rock FAlls and fished mostly the Rock River growing up.
  5. Ok Gotcha now.You know now that I think about those 2 big smallies were caught CLOSE to the Green River
  6. Sounds awesome starting a Western region.I know of several places in my area where smallie fishing is excellent including the Green river.I would like to help at the qc show however I work for the railroad and am on call 24 hours a day.Sorry to bum you out.
  7. I beg to differ on that hugely I caught one 18" and one 19" this past spring. You just have to know where to look .The green river is full of smallmouth.
  8. The fishing is good however access is very tough.I work for the railroad as we cross this creek several times so I know some pretty out of the way places.
  9. I everyone out there . This is my first post .My wife bought me a new flyrod and reel combo set for Christmas. However I'm pretty clueless on what type of flies I should carry or what smallies even like.I live in whiteside county and fish for smallies frequently on the green river and also bureau creek.Any help would greatly be appreciated.
