  1. beautiful, if you want to build a new rod and dont want that anymore. Ill take it
  2. The worst part of them jumping in is they instantly bleed all over the carpet. Its disgusting, they are slimier than pike and bleed everywhere and smell horrible.
  3. The main channel at full throttle is the safest way to avoid them. Its most dangerous when your trolling the bank, or when you start the outboard and accelerate toward the main channel. Usually at full throttle on the main channel they just hit under the boat.
  4. I really hate when they hit the bottom of my boat, its an instant scare. I wish they could just poison the river, kill everything and start over.
  5. I used to fish the stretch of river from spring valley to starved rock about 3 times a week. Now im lucky if i fish it once a month. Its basically just a waste of my time. My fishin buddy got knocked out cold by a 16 pounder that flew out of the water and got him in the temple. I had one jump into my boat and snap a brand new G Loomis rod. I wear a helmet when im motoring from spot to spot and put all my rods away.
  6. It is very frustrating, we used to catch smallies and largemouth on spinnerbaits, cranks, redeyes, etc. Due to the carp and the constant bumping into them with our baits, we have to basically just lip plastics and jigs at structure, which isnt the best technique most of the time. If you want to see something sad. Go to starved rock and hike to Eagle Point, and as far as you can see, you can see asian carp.
  7. iv been having luck on a baby yum craw bug on a jig head, or a BPS leech on a drop shot. Last week the Standin' Yabby was the go to bait.
  8. usually when we snag em we can see them. And since the carp have moved in, the game fish population has dwindled. Quite sad.
  9. I always carry a 2 ounce weighted treble hook when im on the river. At the end of the day me and my buddy throw these out and reel in fast, snag one on almost every cast. They sure are a blast on bass gear. These things make runs like no fish iv ever caught.
  10. Hey everyone. Me and my wife recently purchased kayaks and are looking for good put in and take out spots on the DuPage or Fox River. Good fishing is just a bonus, but we are just looking for somewhere to safely kayak. We have kayaked the vermillion and little vermillion and are just looking for something new. She keeps googling spots, but i knew this was the place to go for kayaking info. thanks

Im from LaSalle. Small world. I have had the best luck with a brown/copper colored Wooly Bugger, easy to fish and easy to tie. When the rivers are a little more muddy ill switch to a black wooly bugger with chart. eyes or a chart. an white Clouser minnow, another easy fly to tie.
  12. well, i went onto punisherlures.com an spent $25. I got 40 jig heads an several craft fur colors. I couldnt believe how cheap everything was. I was gonna get all the stuff off of Bass Pro but there prices were 3 times as much. All i have to do now is get my material an start tying. Then the easy part, go fishing. Thanks again John
  13. I was thinking about tying up some flies for the FnF. I saw John G had tied up a few, i have a few questions. Did you use bucktail or craft fur? An is it better to have a thicker body or a more streamline? I only have bucktail at my disposal for now. Also, what is the best size head to use? Right now im playing around an tying bucktail on a round head, i know i should use a fish head imitation but im just playing around now an dont have any fish head jigs at the moment. I have never FnF fished before so hopefully i can tie a few flies up an hit the local stream to test it out.
  14. How do you like the XPS fluorocarbon on your baitcaster? I tried Berkley Vanish on my baitcaster an took it off after one outing. I now use it as a leader for carolina rigs an it works perfectly. It just seemed to never sit tight on the spool, seemed to just fly off, it made for a frustrating experience. I have only tried the Vanish fluoro, so i was wondering about other brands.
  15. my favorite largemouth plastic to use on the C-rig is a Zoom lizard, i catch em on it year round. Iv seen those plastic spacers youre talking about, ill have to put those on the list of things i need to get this winter.
  16. I was just wondering what everyones favorite rod an reel combo is. Mine is without a doubt my Pro Lite Finesse 7" rod matched with the Pro Lite baitcaster. I have it rigged with 20lb power pro an i throw everything from weightless senkos, to carolina rigs. I had this combo lined with 10lb mono an it landed a 38 inch musky for me in wisconsin in September.
  17. I love to fish Carolina Rigs. Everytime i go fishing its rigged up on my flipping stick. I mostly used it as a largemouth technique, but this year i had great luck in a small river using a carolina rigged Zoom baby brush hog. The only downside to it is when you break it off, its time consuming to rig back up. I use 20lb Power Pro as my main line an a 20lb berkley vanish fleurocarbon leader. Deadly presentation.
  18. Chaotic craw kamikazee secret weapon
  19. Im a member at private strip mines that have extremely clear water. Without a doubt my best color is a blue shad color, anything that puts out that blue glow or flash. That middle color would be a killer on these pits. The strip mines have freshwater herring in them, would that color resemble them?I know for a fact they have no shad in them.
  20. I only use super glue when im tying braid to flurocarbon. I also super glue all knots i tie with fluro.
  21. I figured it was due to the spawn. The last fish i caught was full of eggs an ready to pop. That was about a week or so ago. My buddy went yesterday and didnt get a single smallmouth, he did catch 2 largemouths which is rare.
  22. The last 2 times iv gone to my local stream i have been skunked. Iv always caught fish no matter what the conditions. The water has been perfect, i know the spots im fishing holds fish. Ill get a few taps but nothing id consider a strong bite. Iv tried tubes, swim jigs, jigs, spinnerbaits, grubs, hula grubs, poppers, crawbugs, stik-o, an everything else you can think of. With the rains coming i doubt ill get back out there any time soon, but im frustrated an need some advice. Its like all of a sudden theyve turned off. I figured id ask the experts here to help me out.
  23. Iv found that if im unsure of whether its private or not, i knock on the door of the nearest house an ask permission. Theres a really good spot I know on a local stream that I used to have to park on the road an walk at least a mile upstream to get to. One day there was an old farmer working on his field right by my spot. He had gotten out of his tractor an I asked him if it was alright that i fished there. He said sure an asked me where i had parked. I told him an he gave me permission to park on his private land so my walk is now only 100 feet or so. Iv given him a few bottles of Canadian Club whiskey over the years for allowing me access. I have been confronted by several land owners an none have told me to leave, theyre just shocked theres actually someone interested in fishing this stream that they didnt even know had fish in. I live out here in the country and everyones really nice so maybe its just different where i live.
  24. I have never tried them for smallies, but i have had great succes with them on the Illinois River to catch White Bass.
