  1. beautiful, if you want to build a new rod and dont want that anymore. Ill take it
  2. The worst part of them jumping in is they instantly bleed all over the carpet. Its disgusting, they are slimier than pike and bleed everywhere and smell horrible.
  3. The main channel at full throttle is the safest way to avoid them. Its most dangerous when your trolling the bank, or when you start the outboard and accelerate toward the main channel. Usually at full throttle on the main channel they just hit under the boat.
  4. I really hate when they hit the bottom of my boat, its an instant scare. I wish they could just poison the river, kill everything and start over.
  5. I used to fish the stretch of river from spring valley to starved rock about 3 times a week. Now im lucky if i fish it once a month. Its basically just a waste of my time. My fishin buddy got knocked out cold by a 16 pounder that flew out of the water and got him in the temple. I had one jump into my boat and snap a brand new G Loomis rod. I wear a helmet when im motoring from spot to spot and put all my rods away.
  6. It is very frustrating, we used to catch smallies and largemouth on spinnerbaits, cranks, redeyes, etc. Due to the carp and the constant bumping into them with our baits, we have to basically just lip plastics and jigs at structure, which isnt the best technique most of the time. If you want to see something sad. Go to starved rock and hike to Eagle Point, and as far as you can see, you can see asian carp.
  7. iv been having luck on a baby yum craw bug on a jig head, or a BPS leech on a drop shot. Last week the Standin' Yabby was the go to bait.
  8. usually when we snag em we can see them. And since the carp have moved in, the game fish population has dwindled. Quite sad.
  9. I always carry a 2 ounce weighted treble hook when im on the river. At the end of the day me and my buddy throw these out and reel in fast, snag one on almost every cast. They sure are a blast on bass gear. These things make runs like no fish iv ever caught.
  10. Hey everyone. Me and my wife recently purchased kayaks and are looking for good put in and take out spots on the DuPage or Fox River. Good fishing is just a bonus, but we are just looking for somewhere to safely kayak. We have kayaked the vermillion and little vermillion and are just looking for something new. She keeps googling spots, but i knew this was the place to go for kayaking info. thanks

Im from LaSalle. Small world. I have had the best luck with a brown/copper colored Wooly Bugger, easy to fish and easy to tie. When the rivers are a little more muddy ill switch to a black wooly bugger with chart. eyes or a chart. an white Clouser minnow, another easy fly to tie.
  12. well, i went onto punisherlures.com an spent $25. I got 40 jig heads an several craft fur colors. I couldnt believe how cheap everything was. I was gonna get all the stuff off of Bass Pro but there prices were 3 times as much. All i have to do now is get my material an start tying. Then the easy part, go fishing. Thanks again John
  13. I was thinking about tying up some flies for the FnF. I saw John G had tied up a few, i have a few questions. Did you use bucktail or craft fur? An is it better to have a thicker body or a more streamline? I only have bucktail at my disposal for now. Also, what is the best size head to use? Right now im playing around an tying bucktail on a round head, i know i should use a fish head imitation but im just playing around now an dont have any fish head jigs at the moment. I have never FnF fished before so hopefully i can tie a few flies up an hit the local stream to test it out.
  14. How do you like the XPS fluorocarbon on your baitcaster? I tried Berkley Vanish on my baitcaster an took it off after one outing. I now use it as a leader for carolina rigs an it works perfectly. It just seemed to never sit tight on the spool, seemed to just fly off, it made for a frustrating experience. I have only tried the Vanish fluoro, so i was wondering about other brands.
