  1. Hoping the Kank is better for me in 2010 than it was in 2009!

  2. Way back when, Bill turned me on to the site that has all the current data on the rivers in the state. It has flow rate and pool stage and all that good stuff. When my old computer died, all my links went with it. I know this is the place to get that link. Thanks in advance. Paul
  3. Unfortunately, I can't make this Satruday's event but I plan on making it June 7th. If anyone needs help with sampling in the future, shoot me a message.
  4. I'm in for June 7th. If I can make the sampling on the 16th, I'll be there too. Paul
  5. I was all over the State Park and Warner Bridge area on Saturday. The wading was very tough. There were parts of Area 7 which were very slippery and steep and then throw in that moving water and it became even tougher. Maybe it was just the downpour which slicked everything up. Good luck out there.
  6. Jim, I caught all my fish with a craw bug. I did throw the swim jig some but the water was stained pretty good and I switched over to a spinnerbait. I could only get bit by throwing by laydowns and eddies since the water was really cruising. They sure were hitting soft and for some reason I failed to connect on a couple better fish. From the sounds of Bill's report, I shoulda stuck witht the spinnerbait more. Tough wading/walking with the mud, steep shores, and slippery rocks from the rain. Overall a good day. Good fishing.
  7. Darin Roddick Small's article was good. Most of the info I've read has been about LM and the swim jig. That's why I came here. I've got a couple different ones to try tomorrow.
  8. So I have caught quite a few nice largemouth with a swim jig this spring and now I want to translate that over to my stream smallies. What do you guys think about color? What color combinations have been most successful for you in different color waters? I know a lot of people say color doesn't really matter that much in the river since smallies are such opportunistic feeders so I don't really know how important it is. Any advice is appreciated.
  9. QUOTE (Ed B @ Dec 24 2008, 04:59 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Paul You're right about green bay, this spring I caught and released a 22'' smallie in Door county.I also heard a credible rerport of a 7# 11 oz smallie caught while I was there. Ed B There was a guy in my bass club that caught one over 7 off of Washington Island back in 2007. I think it was 7-11 and the picture was incredible.
  10. Like Jim, I have been using KVD's line conditioner. I have been using it with FC and it greatly reduces the memory of 15 lb and 17lb line. I haven't felt the need to use it with 6 and 8 FC since it is pretty limp to begin with especially the 6. Give it a shot!
  11. I use this same length and action in the Avid line. It is an incredible rod and my #1 smallie wading rod. The rod has a great balance of strenght and sensitivity. And the 7' gives you a lot of leverage when fighting a fish. I am 6' and I like the length. In my opinion, a 7' ml LE is about as premium a smallmouth rod as you can get. Good fishing.
  12. I spent some time last Sunday going through about a half dozen old newsletters cutting out old articles. The quality of information is excellent. Great articles and useful tips. That article on gut-hooked fish was great. I used the technique the next day flawlessly. That would be a good illustration to have on this site. Keep up the good work. Paul
  13. FYI- I picked up one at Dick's for $7+. Right now they have 20% off on Rapalas. They are $9.99 at Cabela's. Going give it shot Monday. Good fishing.
  14. John, I too was thinking about students. I run a couple clubs at school and actually I am going to be the bass coach if we decide to start a bass fishing team. The ISHA is beginning a yearly bass tournament and our school might field a team. Naturally, I figured to take the kids for a clean-up a couple times a year on whatever stretch of water I take. We'll see what develops. Good fishing.
  15. Phil, You're right on about pausing and letting the fish take it if it is following. Several years back, I had a brown spot following my Spit-n-Image. I stopped it- bam. 18" smallie. Gotta get back to Sturgeon Bay one of these days. Good fishing
