  1. I am looking to fish the NW Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin area in the near future. I am looking for access where I can wade fish with my old dog. I have not been to NW Illinois / Iowa in 50 years and have never been to SW Wisconsin but I understand the smallmouth fishing is excellent. Without revealing specific locations, would anyone be willing to provide information on which streams to focus on? My dog has had both rear ACL's repaired but he still loves to fish. https://www.fieldandstream.com/blogs/field-notes/2012/03/illinois-anglers-bug-eyed-puggle-pictures-go-viral/
  2. That sounds like alot of fun and a great idea, Jonn! I have lost my tolerance for winter also. I hope to take a southern river trip in the near future!
  3. Bass Pro Shops makes a decent grip at a relatively low price. I own their basic model and a Cabela's model which weighs fish upto 15 lbs (not digital. I prefer the Bass Pro Shops version.
  4. I have been as far west as Harrison. I know there are some good rivers in the area. Try the forums at www.ozarkanglers.com for information.
  5. Fantastic work Norm! You prevented a certain tragedy.
  6. My son and 3 friends found 3 abandoned kayaks on this trip. No bodies were found and no news reports of missing persons. It surprised them because it is a remote area with difficult terrain. Anyone who walked out of there did so because it was their only option. The USGS gage downstream from this location is currently at 57 cfs. It was at 201 cfs on the day these pictures were taken. A few days ago it was at 5000 cfs and dropped to 100 cfs in approximately 24 hours. Notice the log wedged in the crack of this rock wall:
  7. Here are some pics from a float last weekend:
  8. Mine arrived yesterday (2/12) 61951
  9. Welcome aboard Steve. Nice to see new member from Central Illinois...and a fellow hill-billy to boot!
  10. See if this helps: http://forums.riversmallies.com/forums/ind...c=42929&hl=
  11. You are correct. The Kaskaskia is running at a very high rate below Lake Shelbyville and has been for some time now. No other tribs have smallies to my knowledge. You might try Kickapoo Park on the Vermillion. They have canoe rentals if they have not shut down yet.

My son (Gabe) is one of three finalists in Sierra Designs (outdoor adventure clothing and equipment company) essay contest. The winner is determined by how many online votes they receive. Right now Gabe is in last place. He needs your vote...and the votes of your family and friends. Please take a minute and visit: http://www.gear-ologist.blogspot.com One vote per computer. Thank you. Mark
  13. Nicely done Mike! I was only able to participate in 2 ISA activities this year but they were both memorable. I attended my first Blowout and found it to be highly informative and entertaining (including the ride home). In April I attended the Central Region Outing on the Mighty Mack. My partner (Dana Lee) and I had never fished it before and we found it lived up to it's reputation. Above all I had the pleasure of meeting many others who share the same passion for Illinois streams and smallmouth. Many thanks to Tim Smith, Steve Jordan, and Jonn Graham of the Central Region for their excellent work!
  14. I saw that Norm. Some good info there. I am always learning more about things that I thought I already knew.
