  1. Mike: I am guessing the 12 weight would cast the big doubles better. I almost went with a bigger rod when I was deciding which second rod to get. I like my initial 10 weight that I bought (Redington Predator) so much, I figured I would stick with another 10. I settled on the Echo Edge 10 weight with the Echo Ion reel. I must say, though I have only casted it one day, the Echo feels more like an 11 weight to me. Maybe it is the sinking line that makes it feel that way. It is much stiffer (faster) than my REdington Predator 10 weight
  2. I have just started using one rod with a full sinking line in order to get those big, packed deer hair flies down in the water column. Needed on the lakes that I am fishing. Getting into this muskie thing as now I have two ten weights.
  3. Another one. classic colors with an Owner Cutting point hook on the back. Rattle included: 10 inches head to tip. Plan to hit it hard this weekend........
  4. Mike: Nice fly. I have made some similar with the lazer dub head. I wish I had some beautiful feathers like the ones you used. Expensive hackle feathers are not in the budget right now.
  5. Yes, reverse-tied bucktail and a spun and stacked deer hair head. Had three follows last weekend, but could not get them to open their mouth. Hopefully this weekend and one of these flies will get it done..............
  6. They are simply incredible fish-catching buzzbaits. I never leave home without them. I have had so many of my guiding clients buy them after fishing one with me on their trips.
  7. Durability is fine. Much like his initial swim bait.
  8. Nope............have not tried the Shadalicious. Any decent swimbait can be deadly behind the swim jig. What is great about the new bait from big hammer is the slimmer body, but still having the big tail. The tail is what gives the whole package its mojo.
  9. Big Hammer Swimbaits (a supporter of the ISA blowout) has come up with a new swimbait - the Ring Hammer. I was lucky enough to prototype these in the summer of 2013 and found them to be just as effective as his original swimbait. The new model has a ringed body. This ringed body makes for a slimmer profile. The tail is exactly the same size as his orginal bait and has the same outstanding action. I use these as trailers for my swim jigs. I feel the slimmer profiled body fits the swim jig a little better than the original. In addition, while Pete, the owner of Big Hammer, was thinking about colors I was able to convince him to make a color to match my Bullgill colored swim jig. If you check the site, you will see one of the colors is called Bullgill. All the colors he selected are great bass catching colors. You can check out all the great baits at www.swimbait.com
  10. One option is to simply float downstream and use an anchor. For the kayak, two to three sections of 16 inch logging chain attached with clasp.
  11. Welcome............... I thought your name sounded familiar. I am a long time supporter of the fly fishers up in Milwaukee. I have also seen and been impressed with a few of your flies.
  12. I have used them. I did not know they made larger ones for larger spools..........
  13. What feathers do you want? Heading to dove hunt in 90 minutes.
  14. Ryan: It is on their homepage. I checked today and you can order a number of colors....................
  15. Bought these back in the spring for wet wading. They have been great!! http://www.simmsfishing.com/shop/footwear/oceantek-boot.html No complaints..................and, of course, since they are Simms, they look brand new after months and months of use.
  16. Have you looked at the Fly Fishers up in Milwaukee??
  17. What did you use for the tail material? I am very interested in this fly. I tried to tye one a few months ago and was not pleased with my results...............in other words, it did not turn out as nice as I wanted it to. Ended up throwing it in the garbage. Gotta try again. I see they have a new body material designed by Mr. Chocklett himself.
  18. Maybe most of the streams I frequent, while rocky, are not the slippery rocks you are referring to and that is why the vibram soles work great. Now, when it comes to studs, they are great as long as you are WADING. Do not get in and out of any boat with studs on your boots. Not good for your footing in the boat and not good for the boat. When I had a pair of studded wading boots, I used them in my canoe and put dimples into the inner material of the canoe.
  19. ron: Have you tried the Vibram soles? They came out to replace felt. They do an incredible job and have no need for studs..............
  20. I have tried all the different kind of soles (including the studs) and the best is the new Vibram sole. Handles everything well..................rocks, mud, sand, etc. I think the Vibram sole comes from the military originally. Simms sells many boots with that sole.................it is truly phenomenal.
  21. Why do they not have any dealers in the Midwest
  22. Why not get one for the blowout??? Scott: can you ask them to donate one?
