  1. Bulletin arrived today, enjoyed all the Bulletins, thanks Scott. I wont be renewing my subscription as of June 2012, been a member since the days of Blowouts at Wilmington and the meetings at the restaurant in Kankakee, have the pleasure of fishing with Scott, Norm Minas, Paul Trybul, Jonn Graham, Phil Fiscella and many other members, getting increasing more difficult for me in attempt to wade/manipulate climbing across rocks etc in that I wear a prosthesis and I had to have Spinal Lumbar Surgery last June so back still feels a bit weak. Luck to All. Jack Thompson.
  2. I'm located in NE Arkansas and still wating for the Bulletin.

  6. Read an article where some outfit was going to try and prepare them for food pantry's etc, dont know how that would go over, I live NE Arkansas, town of Blytheville, 48% of the population is below the poverty level, lots of canals nearby but never see anybody fishing plus noted absence of home vegetable gardens. 7. Where is exactly location of Tower Junction? When wife and I travel in our rv we mainly looking for out of the way interesting places.
  8. I purchased a Cahill Rod from Cabela's, 4 piece, 8'6'' 5 wt, Medium Action Graphite Rod, Offset gear to gear disc drag, came with Weighted forward floating line [ yellow], Tapered Leader, 20lb Backing, Pre-spooled on the reel/ready to fish. This is basically an experiment for me to enjoy as per bait and spin cast fishing if I'm able to adapt to fly fishing casting will only be 30-40' bank fishing areas I will visit Norfork and Red River, for trout, evenings and pre dawn I will be bait casting a floating Rapala as per I observed a guy doing on the White River, Bull Shoals State Park, catching Walleye and Brown Trout, then during the day revert to a Golden Cleo spin casting, Buffalo River and Crooked Creek just west of Mountain Home for Smallies, been retired since 95, relocated to NE Arkansas from Lake County, Illinois just on three years ago, took me forty years to "Pry The Rock Loose", I have a 34' Class A Motor home, next winter will be spending two months South Padre Island, salt water fishing was what I was raised on, one hour before/one hour after high tide.

  11. My chiropractor was into fly fishing last year so I'll be checking with him, far as fly shops etc about a four plus drive to the nearest fishing area's namely Red River, Moutain View and White River, Mountain Home, AR, until heat/humidity decreases giving fishing a miss, it was 100 F at 9pm last night, thanks for all the info
  12. That I will not be able to attend, I live in NE Arkansas, lived NE Illinois up to just on three years ago having been a member of ISA for over ten years, first meeting I went to was held in Kankakee and first Blowout I attended was held in Wilmington.
  13. I was recently on the river below Norfork Dam, Arkansas and observed two guys doing well fly fishing from the river bank, I neglected to ask on their equipment, did notice color of their line, Brown, just been reading up on fly fishing equipment, terminolgy etc, was not aware so much envolved with fly fishing equipment, I cannot wade due to wearing of a prosthesis so my fishing is limited to bank or boat , I'm not aware of the difference in handle A-B or Reel Model or how does one transpose fly line weight into comparision monofilament breaking strain, sure is a lot to read on Nymphing, FlyLine #, WTSF, Float Fly Line, Sink Tip and Line color. I just read on Cabela's Three Forks/Cahill Combo with Fly Line I assume it would be sufficient for my needs so if any feed back recommendations would be appreciated.

    Ticks

Have two items on removing of Ticks:- If a Tick attaches itself to you our your dog, cover it with a couple of drops of oil, deprived of air it will soon release its hold so you can remove it without breaking off its head, no oil handy, try the dipstick from your car/truck. A drop of lighter fluid, kerosene, iodine will make a tick back out of your skin,or a dog's, and bring his head out with him.
  15. When my two daughters were members of the local 4 H Club in Lake County, Illinois, I raised Aracucana chickens which originated from Chile in South America, the neck feathers especially from the rooster were prized by a local resident for tying his flies, also the outer shell of the egg that this chicken laid consisted of various colors, besides the regular white and brown shell some eggs had off green, pink and blue shaded hue colored shells together with spots on the outer shell, a study done in Germany many years ago on Araucana chicken revealed that the egg they laid contained more Iron and Vitamin A than the regular chicken egg but it was never determined how this came about even though all the variety chickens under the study were fed the same food, eventually a lady woman doctor living closeby who incidentlly was originally from Germany came out and requested she be able to buy a dozen Araucanas each week, eggs were about 60 cent a dozen at the time, she gladly paid $1/dozen.
  16. 19. Article in Arkansas Democrat Gazette, Sunday 12/12/2010 Landowners, Fisherman at odds on Little Red River. Trout fisherman and several landowners are squabbling over access rights on the Little Red River at Cow shoals just outside Heber Springs, Arkansas. Col. Mike Knoedl, chief of law enforcement for Arkansas Game & Fish, confirmed these conflicts have occurred. He said the sourice of conflict is a dispute over wether that portion of the Little Red is navigable. He said it is, according to the AGFC's legal division. "It's been deemed navigable, and thats the way we are enforcing it, That's our offical stance, Knoedl said. Anglers are quite within their rights as long as they remain in the water, Knoedl said. One recurring problem is when anglers enter or leave the river on private property, even if they are stranded by rising water, they can be cited for trepassing if they tread on private property. Property owners are going to court over this particular stretch of water, until then te state of Arkansas recognizes it as a navigable by way of a 1980 decision on iudentical situation by way the Mulberry River, Arkansas Supreme Court ruled against another property owner who claimed exclusive rights to teh river by his property. One precedent for the 1980 decision was a 1915 case, it held that the state would be compelled to respect evolving definitions of navigability, including recreation. If anyone wants a copy of this article I will gladly mail it to one of our nembers who can share it with other members.
  20. Arkansas Game and fish article, Plastic worms are sometimes ignored by fish, try using a high bouancy worm made with air bubbles and give it a little plastic surgery, use a razor blade or knife slice the worm length wise from mid point to tail, then slice each half again, this will form four tenacles, thread the worm on a jig and the tails will attract fish as they wiggle through the water.
  21. If anybody heading for Greers Ferry let you know Little Red Fly Shop closed its doors first week of this month, the articles I have read and info they put out was really good.

    Flies?

Though I'm not a fly fisherman I intend on my next trip Spring River trying a Float/Fly combinations with a 9' Crappie rod, difficult for me to wade/fish as I wear a prosthesis so I'm regulated to bank fishing or carrying a cane/stool seat combo in about knee deep in water to sit on, where abouts do/did you fish the Spring river?
