  6. Eric Hechman of Coren's Rod & Reel Service is hosting a Deer Hair Bass Bug Tying Seminar led by Cory Gale on Saturday March 18th, 2017. Start time at 9:30am. Bring 200 denier GSP thread, long double serrated scissors, patience and an expectation for some fun! Coren's is at 6001 N. Nina Ave, Chicago, IL (773) 631-5202
  7. I'll plan on coming out also. Can bring a couple fly rods.
  8. Enjoyed the outing and a BIG THANK YOU to Pat and Kip for bailing me out when my car broke down in a smoking mess. Thanks for standing by me and helping me out.
  9. Great job, John! My 2 favorite rods were Brad Eatons's Kabuto fiberglass build (really easy and relaxed to cast) and the Orvis Recon prototype (lot of power and a price point that is manageable). Loads of fun, besides by leaky waders! Looking forward to the EARLY SHOW in November.
  10. My wife, Kathleen, and I will be coming. I got a giant bag of Ruffles and box of Madeline cookies from Costco. See you all in 2 days.
  11. Planning on coming. Eugene, your Triumph is repaired and I'll bring it on Saturday.
  12. We are on for this Saturday 3/22/14 at Coren's. Shop opens at 9:30am - We will start by 10am. We will focus on technique and taking home a couple of deer hair bugs. RC Frog will be featured.
  13. Go Spiz! I'm still raving about my 'personal chef' night with the Spizer!
  14. Sorry for the tardy reply, but Kathleen and I are planning on coming. We'll bring something besides a hardy appetite. CoryG
  15. We've already talked, but I'm attending also. Coryg
  16. Nothing wrong with this fly. Nice spin and trim for a muddler/streamer. Deer hair is not that hard, it just gets better with practice.
  17. I plan on coming. I'll bring something and maybe even my wife, Kathleen, coryg
  18. We will NOT be meeting Monday April 23, 2012. Instead, we are encouraging everyone to go to the "Impromptu Get Together" at Papa Passero's on Thursday nite, April 19th. - See the post in "Events and Announcements". CoryG
  19. Thanks for arranging this, Ed. Don LaBrose will be greatly missed. NOTE: The 4th Monday Bassbuggers Fly Tieing Event is being cancelled with everyone encouraged to go to the Thursday "Impromptu Get Together". We will talk over ideas for next year there.
  20. Hello Bassbuggers, We'll be hangin out, shootin the breeze, and tiein a flashy fly next Monday 3/26/12 at John Loebach's garage in Lombard, IL Meet at 6pm and start tiein at 6:30 pm. I'll demo a flashy surface fly and yes there will be some deer hair involved, but not to worry, this is a fun, easy tie. We'll meet one more time this spring on the 4th Monday in April (4/23/12) and that will complete this season of fly tieing get togethers. Hope to see you next Monday! CoryG
  21. Hi Bassbuggers, Impromptu tieing event this Saturday 3/10/12 from 1pm to 4pm(?) at John Loebach's garage in Lombard,.IL Former Illinoisan, now Georgian, Crawdad Craig will sit in with us and show us some of his new patterns. Craig designs (builds) flies for Rainey's and has some very innovative patterns. So call your fly tieing buddies, because this is very short notice and we don't get Craig here to tie with us very often. CoryG
  22. Greetings, fellow fly tiers! The 4th Monday Fly Tie scheduled for Monday nite 2/27/12 needs to be cancelled/postponed. Our regular meeting place, John Loebach's garage, is unavailable that evening. We will try and re-schedule early in March, after the Blowout. Craig R (Hairy Fodder fame) will be in town and we'll try to schedule a special tieing treat with him. Details to come. Keep on tieing and hope to see y'all at the Blowout. CoryG
  23. Ten thumbs, huh? Joseph is right that you need body or belly deer hair. Preferably 2 - 2.5" long. If you can get a hold of some Chris Helm DVDs, that will definitely shorten your learning curve. Once you know the techniques, its a matter of practice. Drop me a PM and we'll see if we can get together. Regarding Joseph at Orvis, he is a mentor and friend and a wonderful fly tyer. I still greatly miss the Thursday Nite Jams at One More Cast. I still wear my OMC hat.
