  1. Spring cleaning time and I have never used these. Looked great in the store! • Dives 6-8ft • Green and Orange • Brown and Chartreuse • Red and Orange $25 or best offer (retail was 11.99 each) Thanks!
  2. Great list of lures! My wife keeps asking me the same question every time I go to Bass Pro! You can never have enough. I am a tackle junkie and probably need to a shrink about it... or a fish.
  3. This is my 22in 7lb. Smallie that came from Lake Michigan (Also is my Avatar). It is a replica done by Joe Fittante in Wisconsin. Take it for what its a great mount but he took over a year to complete it. www.fittantereplicas.com/
  4. When fishing from boat, wading or shore, I prefer to use my 7ft Medium, Quantum Superlite PT paired with a Quantum Energy PTi30, spooled with 6-8lb fluorocarbon or 10lb braid with a 8lb fluorocarbon leader. This is a great all around spinning rod for me. I use it for grubs, shaky heads, live bait applications, small crank baits and drop shots.
  5. Hey Everyone, While on YouTube this weekend I stumbled apron this company (Confidence Baits) that is making various plastics and terminal tackle for river smallies in the eastern states. I have to say I was really excited to see some of the lure they had to offer and some of the videos on how they use them. They just started out so give them a look! Hope Santa was watching over me as I looked over this site! http://confidencebaits.3dcartstores.com/
  6. As the boating season winds down for me next weekend, I am starting to think of river fishing again. I know the float and fly is a great presentation but what other lures are useful in the cold water period. I use jerk baits a lot in spring so I am assuming they will come into play as well. How about crankbaits, plastics, spinner baits and swim jigs? The rivers that I will be targeting are in the northern Illinois area like the Fox, DuPage, Rock, Kishwaukee and I think I would like to try the Pecatonica as well. Thanks for your help. Steve
  7. In my opinion that is the only color yammy to own in his full line. The color is magnificiant in Wisconsin Lakes. Caught my personal best LM @5.10lb on a 301 senko. The grubs are great too! Thanks the tips on hulla grubs. I was wondering the same thing for rivers. In Madison I use the hulla grub on a 1/4oz. football head slowly realing it down rocky breaks and bars. The only problem I have had with the color is if you try to match it to another brands same make up. Hasn't been as effective. Berkely has one pretty close. Thanks again!
  8. Hey Ray! I see your slaying them again on Geneva! I'd be out there too but this has been a very busy year with out much fishing. Just wanted to comment about those cross tail shads, thy are the best dropshot baits period. I have caught more fish on those than any other worm or gulp products. What colors are you using? I use purple wienie and ayu. Thanks for the tip about the Gulp sent. Ill have to give it a try very soon! Keep up the good work and maybe Ill catch ya out there. Steve
  9. It may help to purchase a underwater camera like an Aqua-view and go out and search for transition areas like gravel to sand or gravel to larger gravel. Or even better isolated rock piles. This usual will help eliminate the fishing part and accelerate the catching. Plus, you will see if there is a catch able population of them. Right around the corner is the spawn. You might want to search out the shallows and see if you can see many cruising or nest building. When you have located a few, try using a dropshot rig with 4-6lb flourocarbon. This rig works well in ultra clear water and perfect for smallies. Just remember that this is not a search tool. You can cast cranks and jerk baits right now for that. Another technique can be a split shot and sucker or chub on a long lined drift. Im not an expert but fishing the great lakes a lot has helped me out with fishing ultra clear water conditions. Hope this helps! Congrats on the 8lber! Thats a monster for us northern folk
  10. I came across this article today and thought I'd share it with everyone. I don't know how old it is or when it was published, but it had a ton of really good information on somewhat of a local river. http://www.in-fisherman.com/content/tracking-river-smalljaws/1 Thanks! Steve K
  11. In spring I like to use Lucky Craft 100 Pointers. Strike Kings Bitsy Bug jig in 1/4oz. with a smallie beaver as the trailer is hard to beat for both smallies and largmouths. Works great for numbers and size. Fish is slow or fast. Last summer while fishing the Eagle River chain I came in contact with a mid 30's muskie burning it in for the next cast. Spring, summer and fall its hard to beat a drop shot rig with a 4-7in trick worm. Other than artificial, I catch most of my 20in+ fish on split-shot and 4-6in chubs and suckers. When the water is below 50 its hard to beat live bait.
  12. I have to agree with the Quantum Tour. I only fish with Quantum products. I use the Energy PT series 5:1 and 6:4. Both are very light and smooth. The 5:1 I use for cranking and for slower plastics. Can't beat this one for hard to reel in lures like DT14-20's. Feels like your reeling in a grub. It helps that it's a work of art as well. The multicoloring accents give it a real nice touch in photos and lying in your boat. I also have a Abu Revo STX that is very nice but it scratches too easily. It looks like it's 10years old. But only have had it one season. Very soft outside shell. Good Luck!
  13. I am a clear water fisherman and only use braided line for such presentations as flipping and pitching. I also use a 2ft leader of fluorocarbon on my braided line as well. Depending on the presentation depends on what line size. You can get away with stronger braid due to its line size. I use PowerPro, 20lb = 6lb diameter. If your keen on using mono like so many are, you can put a small amount of fluorocarbon as a leader for that as well. Fluorocarbon by nature is really clear due to its properties effected by light penetration. I run all my spinning reels with a 80:20 split of P-Line's 8lb fluoroclear and 6lb. fluorocarbon. This helps maintain the line on the spool instead of spinning all over the place. You can up the size to maybe 8lb also in fluorocarbon to get a stronger line. This is what has worked for me this year. Hope you find an answer, it hurts to loose fish to broken lines and lost lures. Especially if your throwing Lucky Crafts! Good luck!
  14. I run a similar rod but the 7'4 Tour KVD. I like it a lot for deeper diving cranks (10ft+). The only bad thing about it is that it is hard to snap weeds off the cranks when you get them stuck. But great for open water banging them on the bottom. Hope this helps. Steve
  15. Hey Guys, I would like to get more info on this please. Thanks! Steve
