Dick G Posted July 12, 2012 Report Posted July 12, 2012 With the recent drought conditions in Illinois, many rivers are at near record low flows. Here are two pictures of the Vermillion River taken on May 30th and July 11th. As others have said, this is the time to get out and study river structure without water obstructing your view. Quote
eugene f collins Posted July 12, 2012 Report Posted July 12, 2012 Wow! Great pictures! Thanks for sharing. What bridge is that? I have only fished a short stretch of the vermillion from the Illinois up river. Quote
John Gillio Posted July 12, 2012 Report Posted July 12, 2012 I see that its flow has dropped below it's lowest flow on record which was 40 years ago. Quote
WILLIAM C. Posted July 12, 2012 Report Posted July 12, 2012 Here are two more photo from yesterdays adventure, fun time was had by all. No big fish but we did get 50 smallies 10 to 15 inches. Quote
mannym Posted July 12, 2012 Report Posted July 12, 2012 The low water period came early this year. Maybe a month early. Hopefully, the smallies will survive. Quote

eugene f collins Posted July 19, 2012 Report Posted July 19, 2012 Hope you get some of the rain we are getting at this present time. This should help us. Quote
John Gillio Posted July 19, 2012 Report Posted July 19, 2012 The mouth of the river took a good drink, about 2 inches in an hour or so on Friday. Not much upstream at all. Nothing today. Quote
John Gillio Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 Aug. 2nd update. River is at lowest levels yet. This shot is taken from midstream looking upstream. It is about a mile upstream from the rivers mouth. There is water in the river up to this point. This however, is due to the Illinois River which is not at an all time low as of yet. The river does hold water in pools upstream from this point. There are dead Asian carp scattered throughout these rocks and in the pools above this point and the river below it. The air smells of dead fish. Lowell Bridge Quote
