Ryan Kral
Hey guys, are there many areas on the Kankakee that you can wade in? I was going to head up there this weekend with another friend who doesn't own a kayak. I've never fished it, can you wade much in the State park area? Also, is Rock Creek worth checking out? Thanks, ryan
JonD
Much of the Kank is wade-able, but like any river that you are not familiar with, procede with caution. It's a big river with some big volume. Most areas by the park are knee to waist deep. Rock Creek is an easy wade...to a point then it gets a little tough with the rock walls and faster water. With the low water we have now, it's a good time to explore. BTW there is a ISA event there this Sunday the 17th. Oh yea, if you like carp, Rock Creek is full of them. Norm M
very wadeable. as mentioned take it slow and you should be fine especially if you have previous wading experience. I would suggest some thick quality socks to help with the pounding your feet will take from the rocks. this river flows harder than most other smallmouth rivers in the state. if you do slip, ride it out feet first downstream until you start bumping bottom. then stand up with mostly bruised pride as the damage. Fredmo
For those of us coming up this Sunday, is the Kankakee R. one you wet wade, or should we plan on wearing waders ? Seems like I have usually worn waders, but it's been several years since I was up there to fish.

Ryan Kral
Thanks guys. It's a bigger river than I am accustomed to, and totally new to me. I appreciate the advice. Ryan

Ryan Kral
Any advice on good access point to park? We will be on foot, so would prefer to be able to cover as much water as possible from the access points we pick. I think we will stick to the State Park area. Thanks again. JonD
Park near where the creek and main river meet. Turn in off the main road and go to your right.
