Terry Dodge Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 So here's the deal. My neoprene waders were leaking pretty bad this year and I knew I was going to have to get another pair. I put the leaky waders on today to keep me warm while shoveling snow, so now the story to the wife will be that they got ruined from shoveling snow. She'll feel bad for me and not care about spending the $$$ for a new pair. Ooooh - Hoooooow. Quote
gordon p Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 I like it...................................!! Quote
Norm M Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 Buy breathables and leave room for poly pro or under armour you won't be sweating in the summer and I'll bet they are easier to dance in. Maybe you could find someone to tango with. Quote
eugene f collins Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 I agree with Norm Terry. Buy a pair of breathables, im enjoying them more than my neoprenes. Buy a tube of shoe goo, glue up the Neo's. Crap, I think i hear the plows coming down the road again... time to get back to shoveling. Quote

Norm You sound like those people who wear t-shirts all winter & set the thermostat up to 75 to keep warm.Unless there's a law I don't know about it's ok to have more than one pair of waders,ie breathables(t-shirts) in summer & neoprenes(flannels)in winter.A quality pair of neoprenes costs only a fraction of a breathable & will forego the hassle & added expense of multi layering.Neos will do as good or better at keeping you warm & enable you to save the wear & tear on those expensive breathables for when they're actually needed. Jonn Graham Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 Who needs waders in the summertime? Quote
Kev-mo Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 Who needs waders in the summertime? Those of us that wade more urbanesque types of water and don't like raging skin infections or things falling off Maybe the water isn't that bad but it can't be that good either... It is a skosh hot even in breathables in the summer. This is where the Goretex waders and the extra money you pay really shine. You can actully feel a breeze/them breathing when you are out of the water vs. non-Goretex breathables. Not dissin regular breathables but there is a difference. Quote
Norm M Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 Ron In my experience I'm warmer by layering in breathables than in neoprenes in cold water. As far as I'm concerned waders are meant to be used not hanging in the garage part of the year so I'll buy some that I can use year round. As much as I use them, I'm generally replacing waders and boots every year anyway. What works for me generally isn't for everyone. Quote
Terry Dodge Posted February 5, 2011 Author Report Posted February 5, 2011 Who needs waders in the summertime? Rivers? Quote
Jonn Graham Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 When my dad introduced me to river smallie fishing, we wet waded in the summer. We still do. When it is a nice, hot summer day, nothing feels better than wet wading. Now, I understand that some guys fish rivers that may or may not be as clean as others. All I can say is that I have been wet wading for about 25 years and have never had a problem with infections or any other pathogens. Could it happen in the future? Sure it could, but I might get hit by a bus tomorrow. I am going to live life dangerously. We all gotta go sometime If you like to wear waders during the summer......then do it. But don't think if you wet wade that you are surely going to contact some funky infection. Keep in mind that our bodies do have defense systems. Quote
Terry Dodge Posted February 6, 2011 Author Report Posted February 6, 2011 I only wear the waders when the water temp drops to a point that my marbles don't like. Quote
Jonn Graham Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 Terry: That is when I wear them as well. Of course my marbles don't get much use nowadays. Quote
Norm M Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 I'm diabetic and have had several heart procedures. I take so many pills I rattle. as a result I bleed like a stuck hog and don't heal worth a tinker's damn. I would love to be able to wet wade but medically it ain't in the cards anymore. Quote
ronk Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 Re wet wading I agree with Jonn & also have never sufferred any ill affects. Thanks to breathables I do less wet wading than I used to but it's a pleasure on the hottest days Quote
