BenG Posted December 18, 2010 Report Share Posted December 18, 2010 I read in the news paper Will County Forest Preserve is going to open two new waters for fishing one this summer and one the next. A couple years back they opened one in Naperville, Whalon Lake. I went on day two and caught 26 bass and some cats in two hours. I used to get a lot of 15" smallies. Later that year we had a big flood and I think the Dupage was connected to that lake. Fish has declined there over the couple years and I was only able to get a few largemouth with a lot of effort. I think the place is still catch and release. The firt year two guys were keeping fish as they were standing next to catch and release sign. I called DNR and they forewarded it to forsest preserve police. The guys stuck around over an hour and got some tickets. There used to be a lot of patrols there but now I rarely see any. I figure if I was going to advertise a new place this would be the place to do it. This does not seem like a bucket person site like others. These new spots are going to be catch and release as well with trolling motor only and paddle type boats. Both are really good fisheries I have see pictures of people with good fish. Patrols of these places have been increased lately so I would not reccomend fishing there until it is open. I don't know if smallies are in these places. The one site has two lakes next to dupage while the other site has one lake connected to the desplaines and one lake next to it. I figure the lake connected to desplaines has smallies and the other ones have huge largemouth and big cats. I think it is a good fishing opportunity and a good place to watch for poachers the area is filled with them inlcuding the ones that fish the retention pond in my neighborhood. I see its very deep and I'm assuming you don't have a boat, so any tips? Also, what's the new lake opening up this summer? Norm M Posted February 27, 2011 Report Share Posted February 27, 2011 Henry, Go to the Will County Forest Preserve website and request maps of the FPD areas near you. They send them free of charge. Ask your local park district if they have any fishing opportunities. Check with the village to see if they have a map of Naperville availible to the public, it may show retention ponds in the various subdivisions. Ask around the high school to see if anyone can provide access areas, you may find a good looking chick to go on a fishing date as well. Any tackle shops in town, if so check with them. Ask the pizza delivery guy, he gets around town, he may know some places. Lot's of ways to find information.
