shabbona events

first event is this saturday two rearing ponds will be drained and the fish putinto the lake. we start at 8am at the roadside pond, then the smallie pond. let me know if you plan to attend, its great for kids .

 

fishing seminars will be held on saturday oct 23rd this will be at the indian creek high school in shabbona. doors open at 1pm. i'll be doing a seminar at 1 30 on jigging spoons. musky guide ron fulk will do a question and answer session at 2 30, raffles at 3 15 finally jim kopjo will give a photo tour of shabbona structure using side scanning technology around 4pm funds raised will go toward a new fence to be built 200 yards downstream of the spillway. anglers $10 and students $5 to get in rich

I didn't know the swampy looking one that is along the road was deep enough to support fish.

 

I thought there was only one smallie rearing pond? Or is the roadside pond also a smallie rearing pond?

 

Also curious, why are they draining them?

the roadside rearing pond is the first one on the RIGHT side of the road. it is about 9ft deep. these ponds are stocked each june with 3/4 inch fish, then are drained in the fall and the fish placed in the lake. the roadside pond has lm and the 6 acre pond has smallies and bluegills . rich

i just heard from larry kimpan who is opening and closing the pond drains. so far over 800 smallies have been released into the lake. we will open the drains at 6 30am tomorrow and run them dry. im hoping for at least 2500 smallies. most are 5inch average. rich
