ronk
Evening fished.Went to the spot where I'd missed 2 big ones the previous am.A canoe passed thru it just as I was about to fish it.Waited 10 mins.No luck.Maybe due to the canoe's disturbance maybe not.Carhopped to another spot just as the sun was setting where I'd hit 4 a cupl ams earlier and was into fish immediately. The 1st 2 were dinks before getting one about 15-15.5". Than there came a vicious hit from a big bass only about 30' away just as I was about to pick up the bassbug for another cast. The 4wt was pointing at the fly as he struck and he darn near pulled it from my hands. If you read my previous post you can guess what happened next.Despite the hard strike the hook found no purchase & the fish was gone.Caught a cupl more dinks before quitting under full darkness. This summer unless you're willing to adhere to that famous song from Fiddler On The Roof you might as well not bother with flyfishing. You're not dreaming big enuf.If I were a very rich man I'd be fishing steelhead in British Columbia, atlantic salmon in Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula, the flats in the Yucatan for bones, permit, tarpon& casting mouse patterns for Alaska's 'bows, coho,& kings. If I felt like rubbing shoulders with the commoners once in awhile I'd swing by the Dupage to cast a bassbug for smallies. As it is the best I can look forward to is a cupl days of guided fishing for steelies on the Muskegon at the end of October.

PM me Ron Wish I could be in 2 places at once.As per my recent posts I've been doing ok on the Dupe recently for hitting if not catching and it's closer to home for a short am or pm try.The weeds aren't as bad this year as they've been.Once they start dying off and drifting on top along with the autumn leaves I'll hit the Fox in October where I've done well for biggies the last 2 autumns.I had a good am on the Dupe today.Report to follow. I bassbug because it's what I like to do, not just what is available. If I were rich, I would be bass fishing in Mexico, Canada, the Great Lakes,Florida,California and the like. Just more often than I do now and at peak times. Plus stay at much better resorts. I must be moving up because I'll be flycasting for bass on the St. John's in Florida in just a few weeks. Florida is my Wisconsin.

Good luck on the John's.Instead of limiting myself to just one kind of fishing for just one kind of fish if I lived there I'd also want to try the Florida flats for redfish, snook& tarpon. And if I lived in Atlanta I'd take time out from bass fishing to also enjoy fishing the trout stream that I understand flows right thru downtown. I like bass fishing very much but to paraphrase the bard"There are more things in the world than are dreamt of in your philosophy,Horatio(Craig)."
