wader quick fix

Got out fishing this weekend. It was slow but I managed a few. The highlight of the trip was ripping a hole through the waders and fixing them on the spot. I was able to get some of that silicone in the hole and then put a piece of duct tape over the spot. Didn't leak at all. I had never thought about the tape over the hole trick before. Anyway always good to learn something new.

Not that I would ever have duct tape on me but when we lived in the Pacific NW, they had an article once in the Sunday paper about all the things one could use duct tape for and more than one fisherman wrote in praising its use for one fishing application or another. One person used it to patch a hole in their drift boat after banging into something substantial on the river and another person used it for medical purposes after they injured their hand while out fishing.

While I understand that duct tape has all types of applications, the earlier question still remains... who carries duct tape on them?

Duct tape was in the car. Some days it seems like I spend more time driving from spot to spot than fishing. But I think I will keep a fresh piece of duct tape above the water line on my waders. Just peel it off and put it over the hole. The good ideas just keep coming.

Red Green is real proud of you Phil.

Why not carry Duct Tape? That and WD-40 should be staples for everyone's tool kit.

I pooped a radiator hose once in the back end of nowhere, Duct Tape held long enough to get me to a place to get a new hose. It would have been a long walk that would have cut into my fishing time.

BTW, that was pre-cellphone days for you techno-younkers.

Guys,

I use a waterproof bandage from the first-aid kit.

Never know if its a hole in the wader letting the water in.

OR

One in my hand (after removing hook) with vital body fluid flowing out.

Been there both ways!. OUCH!
