The last few days I’ve seen dead Canada geese washing downriver on the Fox, plus a few sick ones that are listless, disoriented, and vomiting. I contacted several agencies with videos and pics. The IDNR are aware and have a field biologist trying to obtain a fresh sample for testing.

Avian flu has been observed in Canada geese populations throughout the U.S., and it has been noted within the Illinois flyway.

Although not confirmed, it’s important to be aware and to be careful. Avian flu can be transmitted to other animals and humans. As good practice, take care not to touch anything wet from the Fox and then your eyes, nose, mouth. Keep wet or drying waders, etc. away from pets.

Happy holidays and good fishing. 🎣

Thanks for the PSA Eric. I was listening to the radio yesterday and they were talking about the the bird flu in dairy cows and also it jumped to like 50 people. I've seen a few dead geese over the years floating down the river.

From the IDNR: Members of the public are encouraged to report concentrations of five or more deceased birds found at one location. Reports can be made to the local IDNR district wildlife biologist here: https:// wildlifeillinois.org/idnr-district-wildlife-biologist/

Haven't seen 5 in one location but saw about a dozen or so either dead or dying along the Dupe the other day. Made me feel a little sketchy about wading....
