rich mc Posted November 28, 2018 Report Posted November 28, 2018 so how life like do flies have to be ? anglers have been fly fishing using what is available for years and caught fish . Quote
Mike G Posted November 28, 2018 Report Posted November 28, 2018 rich, My jaw dropped when I saw the prices. $5-10 or more per head is way over my head. (Beat that Rob G.) Good question about how real. Though I do not use it much any more I have caught a lot of SM Bass on a Mickey Fin streamer which only vaguely resembles a fish or bug. I believe that matching the action of the hatch is way more important than matching the looks. The Red and White is another example of a bug that works but has no counterpart in nature. A white minnow with a red head? Quote
John Gillio Posted November 28, 2018 Report Posted November 28, 2018 I agree with Mike. A friend of mine says, "It's not so much the fly you fish as it is how you fish the fly." Not to say a fly's build is not also important. It has to be able to do what you want it to do. Quote
rich mc Posted November 28, 2018 Author Report Posted November 28, 2018 withe the high cost of the flies i wouldrather buy a lucky craft or whopper plopper Quote
Steve S. Posted November 29, 2018 Report Posted November 29, 2018 I bet more labor went into those flies than a manufactured hard bait. I guess it pays to be a skilled tyer! Quote
Jim Wright Posted December 11, 2018 Report Posted December 11, 2018 Cmon Rich! You are so great at creating a fly that will hunt. They are not “lifelike” yet seem alive 👍🏻 Quote
