Cicadas!

I just purchased a new Poulan PRO gas power Blower/vac.

It features a 16:1 vac/grind-up capacity.

Got a tank full of fresh gas---

a box of yard waste bags---

and ready to start sucken' 'em up tomarrow, the 23rd.

I hope the power vac is adequate  to suck them up, should make some good ground-up and pulverized cicadas.

Don't want them critters burrowing back in the ground and coming back in 17yrs.

Not a peep nor sight of 'em yet around the Kankakee region.

From today's Sun-Times (Dale Bowman)-

My friend, naturalist Joel Greenberg, wants to document extreme cases of the emergence of 17-year cicadas, such as enough to require shoveling. Contact him at ckerchmar@earthlink.net.

A little side-note....

Joel authored A Natural History of the Chicago Region

A most excellent read!

I had the pleasure of guiding Joel and others on a walking tour of the Kankakee River State Park some 5-6 years ago, and later spent time listening to some of his stories- which are simply fascinating.

Keep him in mind when wading out to your car.

A possible speaker at a future meeting?

Not a bad thing. Just think how big those maple trees would be in 17 years ;)

Ken ,

Call in a contractor , put in Astro Turf . Forget about the yard and fish more . One day my wife will buy it , I hope .

Mike ,

Out all day today , still no sign of them .

Green asphalt , let the wind blow it away . Trade the blower and the hose for fishing gear .

The blower will give me something to do, between fishing trips.

The best blow job my driveway, sidewalks and lawn will get.
