Tom L
I found this to be quite an interesting read. http://www.worldfishingnetwork.com/stories/post/the-jig-that-changed-fishing
Rob G
That was neat. I remember in the early 60's my dad standing over the stove (much to the dismay of my mother) melting lead for our home made sinkers and a special flat jig head that we dressed with white deer hair or marabou that we called a "crappie killer" ha Later on we started adding an Uncle Josh little "V" pork rind.... killers ! John Gillio
Tom, thanks for sharing. Bucktail jigs are a staple for many of the sauger/walleye fisbhermen in the area. I break them out every spring myself. Remember the old bucktail Pinky crappie jig?
Mike G
Thanks Tom. It is a good reminder that simpler is often better. John, I also remember that they had to have gold hooks to work. Bucktail still works even without a minnow. Does anyone know the MIL Spec number for the survival kit jig? Recalling the $500 ashtray from the '80s, I bet it would cost $25 to tye a '40s MIL Spec jig today.

Rob G
I also remember that they had to have gold hooks to work. Isn't that funny, I have a strong disdain for all hooks gold. Always have felt more confident with Mustad bronze. I know....silly.
Eric
Goes to show the deep thinking Tom puts into fishing ... his mind being open to all techniques. Smart!
