Rob G
Terry, have you ever taken a water sample from that discharge ditch that empties into the Kilbuck Creek? I'm sure there are entities down here at the U of I that would be willing to analyze it or has the EPA already done that and made the data public?
Terry Dodge
That's something I need to look into. The EPA has taken samples about 2 miles downstream of the discharge ditch. I have also found in my research that a leachate specialist is probably the best way to go. Not sure if U od I has one of those?
Rob G
I used to fish smallies with a professor in the geology/chemistry dept. over at the U of I and he would run such samples for me but he has since retired a couple years ago and moved to Colorado (and in case he's reading this >>>> has become a trout snob : ) I can look into it but even Rockford College's chemistry dept. might be able to run an elemental or chemical analysis for a grad student project. Terry Dodge
I am waiting to hear back from a couple people that I have contacted to hopefully hear their input on the matter. I'm kind of thinking it might be best to just meet with the landfill people and let them know what's happening downstream. Maybe they are just not aware, or maybe we can come up with some kind of solution together.

Terry Dodge
Wish I would have known would have liked to have attended It was a chat group, from the comfort of your own home, on the Facebook Kilbuck Keepers page. Very well attended from people from the Chicago and Wisconsin areas. Using social media to recruit other fishermen and bring attention to the Kilbuck problem seems to be working out very well.
