Event details

Once again, the Illinois Smallmouth Alliance will join forces with Friends of the Fox River and the Oswegoland Park District. This coalition of conservation minded individuals will plant 2000 water willow plant plugs funded entirely by the ISA and FOFR. Water Willow (Justicia americana) is a native emergent plant that has disappeared from the banks of some of our local streams. The purpose of our project is to restore the river banks to their more natural state and character. The site has been chosen based on the proper substrate, lighting and river level. Bob Rung, stream biologist from the Illinois Department of Natural Rescources, will supervise the project. We will be planting near Violet Patch Park, north of Oswego on July 15th . We will meet at 8:30 am.
