I saw one similar pattern where a fellow wrapped flat sheet foam around the shank to build up the body, refine the taper and supposedly helped it stay on the top. Late winter I attended the bass buggers demo of the The-Down and dirty- a nice easy tie, sits low in the water, when the fox was wadeable I had a couple hours. The mouse caught a smallie.
