  1. It seems to me that the last time he was in town and we had an outing planned on the Kishwaukee it rained the night before and the river came up about 9'. Then again I am getting older and forgetful. Welcome back to Illinois Kevin I think your friends in the ISA have missed you and your passion.
  2. I am not sure about that singing part but you're sure welcome to come down!
  3. if you want to join the SWMSA it is just a Chapter of the Missouri Smallmouth Alliance and you can join them at www.missourismallmouthalliance.org. I got them to set up a forum on there site for Members which is something they should have done years and years ago. They are lagging behind something terrible with only about 275 or so members and have been around longer then the ISA. It is a giant undertaking and I am getting beat up somewhat by a few who think they know it all. You'd have to go to www.ozarkanglers.com/forums and check out the Conservation section toward the top and then scroll down to the Ozark, Rivers, Streams and Creeks and find Crane Creek I really caught it there because I put up 13 requests on different Rivers and Creeks. The Ozark Anglers site is owned by Phil Lilly who is a super guy and runs a resort on Taneycommo Lake and Guides for Trout. He has scheduled about 6-8 seminars at the Springfield Nature Center for anyone that wants to come and they are all free. I just went to one by Guide Bill Babler on Suspended Baits. He talked for two hours on them. Phil's site is a premier forum down here with tons of information. Check it out I think you will like it.
  4. Well I took the plunge and have started the Southwestern Missouri Smallmouth Alliance here in Springfield, Mo. our first meeting with be April 1, 2010 at the Springfield Nature Center and will continue every first Thursday or the month at this location until December. It is a huge undertaking I think but it should be fun also. Wish me luck I think I will need it.
  5. If that don't catch a bunch of Smallies somethings wrong. That bug twitched on the surface under a tree or bush or in a eddy is gonna get nailed for sure.

    ...

That is Ed Loch and he caught the only Smallmouth caught during my visit to Illinois in I believe it was 2008. We had high water and could not wade the river. Great breakfast and the conversation was outstanding. Nothing like friends getting together and enjoying what they love.
  7. Norm, you old duffer. We got soft water down here but it has been cold and snowy. Well about an inch. Gonna put the boat on the water next week I suspect though. They are deep but who knows I may get lucky. You be careful you here my friend.
  8. Looks like I will be using 1/2oz Jigging Spoons on 8 lb Seaguar InvizX Fluorocarbon line on Main Lake Flats off the main river channels in water from 35' to about 52'. Should be fun trying to find them this weekend.
  9. That is a fine Banner! You're Welcome!
  10. I did that for a number of years before retiring and moving to Missouri. It was a rewarding experience and I very much enjoyed the time spent do it. Good luck to both of you and make it fun not work.
  11. Welcome to the Illinois Smallmouth Alliance where you are able to meet like minded folks and learn all about Illinois Smallmouths. You will gain some as a registrant but the most gains will be from being a full fledged paying member and getting you copy of the Bronzeback Bulletin. Look for outings and Hook Ups to get the most from the site and look for the conservation things like clean-ups and such to give back to the Illinois Smallmouth so that future generations can enjoy them.
  12. That looks almost like the real thing. It appears to have a ton of flash and should produce very well. Good job Michael.
  13. I remember fishing from Oswego Route 34 Bridge down to Orchard Rd. which if my memory serves me right is about three mile and do that in about 4-5 hours and that was working the areas over pretty good. Then again in some areas that have a lot of cover to work you may only wade about 1-1/2 miles in 4-5 hours. I think it depends on the area your fishing and the fish holding cover you have.
  14. Here are some pictures of the Coopers Hawk in a neighbors year catching a Robin Robin gets away Hawk Chasing it down again Needless to say the Robin finally lost the battle but put up a great fight.
  15. That is a Cooper's Hawk. I had one in the neighbors yard after a Robin and took some pic's of it and sent them to Dale Bowman and he did a write up on it in the paper with my picture. Pretty cool and the Robin put up a pretty good fight.
  16. I see articles and shows on TV that show various animals putting on the feed bag before winter. So is that to say that fish do not because they have an abundance of food and don't need to. I would think that they as other animals do get more active in the feeding zone then normal and put on fat for the winter months when they can't move about as muck as usual.
  17. These bodies of water have been talked about often in the last 10 years and they are still producing the biggest Smallmouths around the globe. With that being the case I don't think this article will increase the fishing pressure on any of these bodies of water. I am surprised that Table Rock Lake is not mentioned as it has a very healthy population of Smallmouths. The Guides post on the local website here with information on what the fish are doing and a general area for catching them. I don't see that happening anywhere else around the country. How about in your areas?
  18. I guess food is not always the way to a mans heart. Sounds like you will have a great day on the water tomorrow. I do hope you write about your new rod.

    VICTORY

I am glad you got that straightened out. It didn't sound right to me at all. You may find better fishing further down stream away from the dam. Look for dead falls and current breaks as you wade down river. I know I always found the fishing better and a lot fewer people the farther I got from the dam.
  20. Added my zip and saw that I am living in a mostly Green County!
  21. I waded about a couple hundred yards and got four Bass Don. You missed a good Breakfast and some great conversation. Nick, thanks for the spare waders they worked out very well. It was great to meet with everyone again this year for Breakfast, conversation and some fine fishing. Friends are always good to make a visit back home memorable.
  22. I ran off and forgot my waders but I got a Rod Reel and some Sliders with Slider Worms so I am ready to try and catch some fish. Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.
  23. I di remember that trip William! It was an interesting trip and running into Jonn was a special treat. I remember you guys laughing at my Twister Tail Grub with the rubber band legs. I caught a Smallie on it though. Those were good times for sure. That is why I enjoy meeting for breakfast when I come in town. Hey Norm! Need to get Phil to come up also. I talked to him a few months ago but haven't seen him in a couple years.
  24. I hope it is going to be more then Me, Norm, Nick, and Don Rego. I guess the rest of you are just going to surprise me. That's it you all gonna surprise me. Actually I am just putting this back to the top so more may see it and come out for breakfast and Bull Session.
  25. I am coming into town for my yearly visit with family and friends and want to meet with my old ISA fishing friends at Baba's in Shorewood like I did last year and past years. I figure we can meet at about 7:00am and if mother nature has a mind to stop raining we may even get to fish the DuPage River afterwords. I would like to see as many of my good friends as possible and those that don't know me come on out too as we have a good time and pass some tall stories. Looking forward to seeing you all out at Baba's on Saturday morning July 18, 2009 at about 7:00am. I will be there early I suppose having coffee and hoping someone remembers me and comes out for breakfast. Baba's is at Route 52 and route 59 in Shorewood, Il. Just head south on I-55 and exit at route 52 and it is about 2 blocks to the right off the interstate on the corner.
