I alway wore a pair of Poly glove liners when out wading. They allowed me to tie a knot and kept my hands warm also.

I would go back every warm day or better yet every chance you have until you catch her then leave her alone for a month and try again. I suspect she has everything she needs in her little piece of the world and won't go far.

The latest issue of In-Fisherman has an article about warm water Smallmouth fishing. They are refering to Powerplant Discharges for big catches of Smallmouths while wadding our Rivers. It almost sounds like a take off from the Treatment Plant Discharges.

I believe at one time the area was filled with wild beasts including Grizzly Bear and many more Black Bears as well as Wolves. The Indians were not the friendly types either. Good story Mike keep up the good work.

That was a very nice step back in time Mike. Hard to believe it was to dangerous to camp on land in the Kankakee area back then.

Those look like Jonn Graham Stream Special Colors. I bet he has developed those colors over his years of chasing Smallies and finds them the best for catching them grand old Bronzebacks. They really look great Jonn good work.

I was watching the Outdoor Channel today and caught a program called Fish and Wildlife Journal and was surprise to see that it was hosted by Brent Manning who they noted was from the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County. I was both impressed and surprised to see someone I was familiar with doing a show like this.

I saw this while fishing Table Rock Today. I never expected to see this in broad daylight and close to noon.

I helped pick the colors and fabrics for the Great Room and Family Room here at the ol'homestead by I can asure you she would not have let me put up fish pictures in the Great Room.

It was my experience on day that the Smallmouths followed the Carp around and picked up the spoils. I found a spot and stood on it for almost and hour caching about 100+ Smallmouths that were in amoung and behind or should I say downstream of the Smallmouths. That was a great day on the Fox River for me and I feel that the Carp made it happen. They root around and chase up crawfish and other favorites of the Smallmouth so the Smallmouth stay close behind.

I am going to be using a Light Action 6'6" Spinning Rod with Power Pro 15/6 Line. My lure of chice will be a 1/16oz Charlie Brewer Crappie Slider with a 3" BPS Stick-O in Watermellon and I will be casting into the nearest Eddies and edges of the fast water.

Hi Michael! I get to close to Don when he has the Spinning Rod I can't imagine how he will be with a Flyrod in his hands. You are getting very good at tying those Fly Patterns. They look very realistic to me and if I were a Smallmouth I would eat one.

Great pictures Scott. I fished Lake Vermilliam a few times myself and it was a great lake for sure. I bet you were about the only one out fishing for Smallmouths.

Man that was a Fat Smallie. In that time period she must have been full of eggs. Never seen one that fat before.

It is truely amazing to spent time in the outdoors and watch an Eagle soar. I spent a few weekends at Keokuk, Ia. and up along the Mississippi River photographing Bald Eagles that were wintering in the area. The first time it was really cold and they were consintrated close to the open water of the Dam at Keokuk. Since it was Bald Eagle Days at the time I was able to venture out to the dam and photograph them feeding in the waters below the dam. They also roosted in the trees accross the river and looked like Crows in the trees as there were so many. I have seen a good number of them down this way this winter also. That had to be a rear eye opening experience Mark.

Michael you could just put in at the house and have your wife pick you up at Shorewood when you called.

That is a good looking Fly Mark. You must tie more of them since they work so well. That Northern would have been great panfried or grilled. They are especially good with the "Y" bone cut out so you have no bones and just good firm meat. Very taste as I have eaten many of them on trips to Wisc. and Minn.

Glad to hear that you have found a new Job. I am sure that it was taxing on you to be out of work. I found myself downsized and out of work back in 1999. However, I was very close to retirement so I didn't need much to get by. Now retired I think back and wonder what I would have done had I been younger. If any of you younger guys and gals out there need some advise I can tell you to get more then one profession going for yourself so you have something to fall back on. Now Thomas if you care to come to Baba's in Shorewood on Sunday the Forth of June I'd be glad to buy your breakfast and then head out onto the DuPage for some Smallmouth Action.

I participated in the Fin Clipping of Smallmouth Fry that were stocked into the Kaskaskia River in Shelbyville, Il. This was and enlightening thing for me. It showed the diffrance between Smallmouths that were still feeding on plankton and those that had gone for small minnows and other food sources. The differenace in sizes was astounding to say the least. The Plankto eaters were about 2"-4" and the ones that had moved to minnows and other forage were up in the 5"-8" range and much fatter. Just ask John Graham and some of the others that were there.

I have to wonder if taking a Smallmouth off a Bed where he is guarding Fry on the Apple wouldn't be a good thing for the 7"+ Smallmouths lurking around that would then feed on the fry and get bigger. I can see a problem on a stream with little or no Smallmouths and the idea is to increase the presences of these fish. In this case fishing beds would not be a good thing. However, when you have an abondance of small fish perhaps taking the Male Smallie off the bed for a time so these smaller fish could feed may help the survival of the species.
