  1. What? Mike is getting rid of a BVK?
  2. Moving these to eBay soon where I'm sure they'll make at least what I'm asking here. Now's the time to get a deal. Let me know asap if interested.
  3. Moving to a smaller place and getting rid of some gear I've accumulated. I'll miss these guys: 1) Redington CPX 9' 8wt 4pc (no tube) $135 2) Colton Tradewinds UD Blue 9' 7wt 4pc (casts an 8wt line beautifully) $125 3) Redington Crosswater 9' 8wt 2pc (in a Sage rod tube) $50 4) Redington RedFly2 7'6" 4wt 2pc $75 5) TFO TiCr 9' 6wt 4pc (no tube; this is the rod series that BVK replaced, so if you ever break it, they'll prob send you a BVK) $125 All have seen light-to-moderate use and are in solid shape. I can vouch for their mojo. I'm not sure of Redington's warranty on the Crosswater series, but I know the rest of them have lifetime warranties. Priced to move quickly. Someone will catch a ton of fish on these! Let me know here or PM me your interests or inquiries.

  5. Eugene, Will do, if I still have the rod by then. I agree that testing before buying is a good idea. This one's a fun little toy for sure, just have to match with th right line. I'm working on getting some new stuff from Orvis to show you guys at the event. Tim
  6. I tried PM'ing you a while back. Rod is still available
  7. Bart, no problem! Sight-fishing the harbors is a bit unorthodox and takes some learning. But you were definitely getting it. I'm sure with another visit or two, you'll be catching some urban smallies, carp & drum. We do have tons of diverse opportunities to fish in this area! Jim, I'm glad you liked the magazine. There are a lot of interesting pieces every season.
  8. Thanks, fellas. Bart, it was nice showing you some of the Lake Mich smallmouth fishery today. Maybe better luck next time. Hard to tame the big water.
  9. It's a great Midwest-focused fly rag, and free, if you're not yet familiar. Summer issue just released and I got some smallmouth pics in there. http://atightloop.com/Summer2014.html
  10. I've used Misfit Fly's UV bond tack free with good results, and it's affordable. But it's not thick enough for building big durable heads, filling big gaps, etc. Great for an overall coat on eyes, threads, small candies http://www.lundsflyshop.com/mobile/Product.aspx?id=38843
  11. They're so ugly now. Loved the old gray ones
  12. @RobG, yes. @Jonn, yes. Alcohol removes tack but removes clarity, leaving a hazy finish. I avoid it.
  13. John, I think it's a nice rod. It's great looking, not heavy, durable (they've reinforced the ferrules with a graphite weave) and not a terribly stiff fast action. It's by no means a broomstick. It was fun to throw an intermediate line on for salty critters. I could just use some extra scratch right now or I might not have posted it for sale. It was a tough call. Dropping the price to $190 PS. thanks for the info, Ryan.
  14. I've got a Redington Link fly rod, 10 weight, 4 piece, lightly used in saltwater, perfect size for musky, pike, and salmon around the Midwest or stripers, tarpon, permit in saltwater. MSRP was $375 I'm asking only $200 Respond in the thread. Thanks.

    Fair price?

You guys are taking labor, and specifically unequal international labor valuation, out of the equation. Most commercially tied flies are tied by women in small factory-type settings overseas in nations where the overall wages are dirt cheap compared to US standards (which have been hard won by a history of labor activism and then defeated (real wages have decreased) in the last 40 years by dismantling of labor protections). And the women in these countries, like at home, have their labor devalued below men's (their wages are cheaper). They don't just have a passion for flytying. They get paid pennies per fly, flies that are marked up by the wholesalers and again by retailers. We have become used to these prices, and that informs our reaction to the different prices we see in the market. So, to say that no fly is worth more than $3.50 is to say that you don't value the flytyer's labor much...which would be ironic for anyone who takes pride in tying flies or knows how long the learning curve can take.
  17. I've got a lightly used Redington Red Fly2 7'6" fly rod, 4-weight, 2-piece with tube and lifetime warranty. It's a sweet little, light, fast action fly rod that is perfect for summer in the Driftless or on your neighborhood pond. I'm just trying to thin the herd a little. I wish I could keep it! $75 local meetup in Chicago or Chicagoland suburbs. If you want it shipped, add $8 (it's a 2-piece). Thanks!
  18. Goop. Goop. Goop. That was misleading....You'll only need to Goop once
  19. Sounds like a great event. Doug is an amazing caster and instructor. I'll try to be there!
  20. Lightly used Okuma integrity 7/8 fly reel for sale loaded with backing and cabelas prestige wf5f floating line. The overall diameter of the reel is smaller than many 7/8's, so I used it as a 5, which happens to be the rod I used the least. So it needs a new home. Everything's in super shape; line is clean $45 shipped, PP MO or check
