John and Mike, thanks for the reviews.

 

 I notice they also have the Prestige for only $10 more at 29 clams, is it worth the extra 10 or not in your opinion?  I've got more reels than I need now but it's always nice to have a loaner or something I can give away to a neighbor kid.

St. Croix used to distribute a small container of wax or paraffin with each fly rod but not sure if they do that anymore.  Thanks for the reminder as I used some last night.

Thanks guys, a friend of mine uses this reel and feels it's one of the best values out there.  He is an engineer and worked with conical drags for larger applications and swears by the design.

is there any difference between the original and this newest version of that reel other than the different color of the spool?
