I have been really enjoying the 'Apple a day'posts, so thought I would give critter a day a try. Feel free to help out. Here is the starter, a Red Bellied Woodpecker. Picture taken through my living room window.

What kind of telephoto lens are you using? Birds are the hardest subjects to photograph for me!

A late winter Cardinal in the back yard. These birds are really hard to photograph at a moment's notice, for me any way.
One of the most skittish species I've had the pleasure of watching in our yard.
I placed feeders right out the window by my computer desk, and most of the time if I even reach for the camera sitting in front of me they fly away.....

The female Cardinals aren't as spooky as the males.Try putting the feeders a little further away & using the zoom lens if necessary.

Steve,
I have a relatively inexpensive Panasonic camera, but it does have an 16 or 18 times zoom. You have to shoot at a very high shutter speed when using a zoom that long. I shoot the birds at 1/200 of a second. I'm glad some of you joined in this thread. Here is another bird from just a few weeks ago. Remember?

I see we're stickin' to winged critters thus far. Is a critter any type of animal Gregg?

No respectable scud takes kindly to being called a "winged critter".

I didn't need a zoom lens to get this picture. This red tail hawk was sitting on my deck railing a few years ago.

I had some trouble with a gang of very large critters doing some severe damage to my house this past winter.

Any suggestions for control appreciated. :o

Since it seems squirrels will eat just about anything it's odd they don't care for apples. They hardly touch the ones from the tree in my yard even though they're tasty.
